Event: 1918: End Game: Armistice and Aftermath
The final part of our triptych, covering the period from 1917 to the end of the War and beyond, following those stories that began in 1914.
Conductor: Andrew Penny
Beverley Chamber Choir, New York Consort
Vaughan Williams: Serenade to Music
Vaughan Williams: Symphony No.3 ‘The Pastoral’ (Second Movement: Lento Moderato)
Gustav Holst: The Planets
‘The Planets’ by Holst had its first performance one hundred years ago in 1918. Vaughan Williams’ ‘Pastoral Symphony’ was written during the War, but not performed until 1921. Our spoken narrative reflects on the approaching end of the war from a Hull perspective using images and sounds with pre-recorded contributions from John and Jane Godber.
The ‘Serenade to Music’ was written for Sir Henry Wood’s Jubilee in 1938, eighty years ago. Sir Henry was conductor of our orchestra for 16 years from 1923 to 1939.
PLEASE NOTE THE STARTING TIME IS 7.00PM
